Chelsea make enquiry about signing proven 28-year-old – report
Chelsea are interested in signing defender Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham this summer, according to reports
Chelsea have made an enquiry about signing Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham this summer, according to reports in the British media.
The Times, as quoted by BBC Sport, is reporting that the west London side have enquired about the Belgian defender’s potential interest in leaving Spurs this summer, with talks about a new contract at Tottenham for the 28-year-old defender not progressing well.
Alderweireld has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s finest defender under Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.
Chelsea are believed to be on the lookout for further reinforcements before the end of the month as Antonio Conte looks to further prepare his team for a return to the Champions League.
The Blues have brought in four players so far this summer, after having tied up deals for Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.
The west London side, though, continue to be linked with a host of other star names as Conte looks to further bolster his squad for his second season in charge.
Chelsea won the Premier League title last season but did not have the distraction of European football, as they were able to concentrate solely on domestic affairs.
