Paul Merson believes that Chelsea are the team most likely to catch Manchester City in the title race this season.
The Citizens have been the Premier League’s clear standout team this season, with Pep Guardiola’s men flying 13 points clear at the top of the table.
Indeed, Manchester City have only dropped two points so far this term as they established themselves as the clear favourites to lift the top flight trophy in May.
Chelsea, like most of Manchester City’s rivals, have struggled to keep pace with the Citizens at the top of the table.
And the Blues’ goalless draw with Everton on Saturday caused them to fall 16 points behind Guardiola’s side.
But former Arsenal star Merson feels that Chelsea are the team who are the best placed to challenge Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table this season.
Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “Of all the teams chasing them [Man City], I think Chelsea will probably be their biggest challengers now.
“But it’s hard to see anyone catching them.”
Chelsea are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day.
The Blues are likely to be active in the January transfer window as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his side with some new signings in the new year.
