Steven Gerrard opens up on Eden Hazard at Chelsea: People don’t realise this about him
Steven Gerrard explains why facing Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard is such a difficult task for the opposition
Steven Gerrard has admitted that Eden Hazard was “impossible” to play against during his time at Liverpool as he heaped praise on the Chelsea playmaker.
The 26-year-old Belgian has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attacking talents since his move to Chelsea from Lille back in 2012.
Hazard has been working his way back to full fitness from an ankle injury but now appears to be approaching his best form for the west London side.
The playmaker earned plenty of praise for his fine display for Chelsea during their Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid in Spain last week.
Hazard was unable to prevent Chelsea from slipping to a 1-0 loss to Premier League rivals Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
And former Liverpool captain Gerrard has opened up about what it’s like to play against the talented attacking midfielder.
Speaking on BT Sport on Saturday, Gerrard said: “He’s impossible to play against.
“I played the holding role for Liverpool a couple of times when he came to Anfield with Chelsea and he’s impossible to play against because he can get either side on a one-v-one situation.
“People don’t realise how strong he is and he has a low centre of gravity. He’s so sharp and quick. He’s got the lot.”
Hazard will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday 14 October.
The Blues are aiming to defend their Premier League title this season after they finished top of the table in Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge last term.
