Tiemoue Bakayoko sends clear message to Chelsea fans
Tiemoue Bakayoko insists that he is not feeling the pressure of replacing Nemanja Matic at Chelsea this seasons
Tiemoue Bakayoko has insisted that he is not feeling the pressure of stepping into Nemanja Matic’s shoes at Chelsea.
The French midfielder was brought to Stamford Bridge by Antonio Conte in the summer transfer window as the west London side opted to let Nemanja Matic leave to join Manchester United.
Bakayoko will be expected to hold down a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge this season under Conte as he looks to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League.
Chelsea’s decision to let Matic move to Manchester United surprised many, after the Serb helped the Blues to win their second Premier League title in three seasons last term.
However, Bakayoko insists that he is not feeling under pressure to live up to Matic at Stamford Bridge.
Asked whether he feels pressure to replace Matic, Bakayoko told the Daily Mail: “I don’t feel that at all.
“I did have the chance to see him [Matic] playing when I first came here and we spoke a lot together, and got on very well.
“He wished me all the best, just as I wished him all the best at Manchester United. I have come here to follow my own path, and write my own story.”
Bakayoko was a second half substitute for Chelsea as the Blues were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The French midfielder will be hoping to feature when the Blues return to Premier League action next weekend with a trip to bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City.
Bakayoko scored his first Champions League goal for Chelsea in the 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag last week.
