Journalist makes big Chelsea claim about Eden Hazard: He was close to leaving
Journalist Kristof Terreur claims Eden Hazard would have moved to Real Madrid but for the Chelsea forward's broken ankle

Eden Hazard would have moved to Real Madrid in the summer if the Chelsea forward didn’t break his ankle, according to Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur.
The 26-year-old forward broke his right ankle during national team training at the end of the 2016-17 season to rule Hazard out of the start of the new campaign.
Hazard scored 13 goals and made seven assists in the Premier League last term as the Chelsea number 10 won his second title in three seasons under two different managers.
The Chelsea star has been regularly linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid and Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain over the past three or four seasons.
Hazard remained at the defending Premier League champions beyond the summer transfer window before the Belgian forward returned to Antonio Conte’s starting line-up last week.
However, Belgian reporter Terreur has claimed that Hazard would now be in the white of Real Madrid if Hazard hadn’t suffered a broken ankle at the end of last season.
“As long as Zidane is the manager it will always pop up,” Terreur told The Transfer Window podcast.
“But I think Chelsea are trying to convince him to sign a new contract.
“I think if he hadn’t injured himself at the end of last season during the international period with Belgium, it might have happened already.
“That has slowed down everything, as has the rise of (Marco) Asensio.”
The Chelsea star teed up Alvaro Morata for his side’s equaliser in his first start of the 2017-18 campaign in a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last week.
Hazard was powerless to prevent the title holders from suffering a 1-0 loss to Premier League leaders Manchester City last weekend.
