Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink tells Chelsea to make this signing now
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes that Chelsea are still in need of a number of signings this summer
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes that Chelsea still need to bring in another striker before transfer deadline day despite the arrival of Alvaro Morata this summer.
The Spanish forward became Chelsea’s marquee signing last month when he joined the Blues from Real Madrid on a five-year contract.
The transfer came as something of a surprise to many, with Chelsea thought to be keen on signing Romelu Lukaku before the Belgian ended up moving to Manchester United.
Morata will be looking to establish himself as Chelsea’s leading striker this season, but with Diego Costa still in exile, Hasselbaink believes that the west London club are still in need of attacking reinforcements before the end of the summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Hasselbaink said: “They still need reinforcements in a few areas.
“You can’t replace Costa, they have Morata but I do feel they need one more
“Morata will be a brilliant signing – he’s played for big clubs before like Juventus and Real Madrid, so he knows what’s expected of him and how to handle the pressure.
“His movement is magnificent and I am sure he will score goals for Chelsea.
“But you cannot forget how Costa used to play, making trouble with defenders and unsettling them. When he was facing the goal he was one of the very best.’”
Chelsea secured their first Premier League points of the season on Sunday thanks to a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Morata started for the Blues at Wembley but was unable to find the net as Marcos Alonso scored both goals to hand Antonio Conte’s men victory.
Chelsea, who are preparing to return to the Champions League next month, now turn their attentions towards their home clash against Everton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
