Insider gives latest update on Chelsea’s bid to sign 24-year-old
Antonio Rudiger has still not decided if he wants to sign for Chelsea this summer, according to Dharmesh Sheth
Antonio Rudiger will consider a possible transfer to Chelsea in the next few days before making an official decision about his future, according to journalist Dharmesh Sheth.
The Blues have been linked with a move to sign the 24-year-old Roma defender in recent days as Antonio Conte looks to shore up his rearguard options at Stamford Bridge.
There had been reports in Italy this week that the Blues were set to close in on the signing of Rudiger, with the player said to be set to undergo a medical with the west London club.
However, Sheth has suggested that those claims were somewhat premature and that Rudiger has still not made his mind up about his future.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Tuesday morning, Sheth said: “Developments on Chelsea’s hopes of signing the Roma defender Antonio Rudiger. Reports in Italy have said that the German international will have a medical with Chelsea.
“[But] sources close to the player are telling me, just hold your horses.
“I’m told Rudiger will use the next few days to decide on his future and hold further talks with Roma.
“In the meantime, negotiations continue between the clubs over a fee.”
Chelsea are thought to be on the lookout for a number of signings this summer as Conte prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
The Blues won the Premier League in Conte’s first campaign at the club but missed out on the FA Cup when they were beaten by Arsenal in the final back in May.
