Raphael Honigstein reveals Chelsea boss is a big fan of 24-year-old striker
The Bundesliga expert reveals Antonio Conte is a big admirer of Romelu Lukaku as Chelsea look to re-sign the striker
Antonio Conte is a big fan of Romelu Lukaku and wants to bring the Everton striker back to Chelsea, according to Raphael Honigstein.
The Belgium international is thought to be Conte’s top target in the 2017 summer transfer window as the Blues manager looks to bolster his squad.
Indeed, the Italian coach has reportedly told Diego Costa that he is not part of his future plans despite the Spanish striker scoring 20 times in 35 games last term.
Lukaku, on the other hand, netted 25 times in 36 games to finish as the Premier League’s second-highest goal-scorer behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
Chelsea sold the 24-year-old to Everton in a £27m deal in 2014 after Lukaku had spent loan spells at Goodison Park and West Bromwich Albion.
Speaking to ESPN FC about the possibility of Lukaku securing a return to Chelsea this summer, respected journalist and Bundesliga expert Honigstein said:
“It looks like Chelsea [for Lukaku].
“Chelsea have been enquiring for a long time. Antonio Conte is a big fan.”
Lukaku has already confirmed that it is his intention to leave Everton in the summer transfer window and it remains to be seen if a deal will be concluded in the coming days.
