Chelsea are odds on to sign AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger this summer, according to bookmakers.
The Premier League champions have been heavily linked with a move to sign the 24-year-old defender in recent weeks as Chelsea look to bolster their defensive options ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
Antonio Conte has been left frustrated in his pursuit of a top-class centre-half in the summer transfer window so far, having already been linked with Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci and Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.
Rudiger emerged as a candidate to fill John Terry’s void last week as the Premier League winners looked to finalise a deal to sign the AS Roma star.
While Chelsea have announced a deal to sign Rudiger despite the incessant transfer speculation, bookmakers BetStars are confident a deal will go through after pricing the German’s move to Stamford Bridge at 1/20.
“Antonio Rudiger’s expected move to Chelsea looks to be all but sealed, with the odds now at 1/20 for the Premier League Champions to secure his signature this summer,” said BetStars director of trading Ian Marmion in a press release.
“The German central defender, who helped his country clinch Confederations Cup glory on Sunday, is viewed by the Blues board as an upgrade on both Nathan Ake and John Terry who have been allowed to leave the club during this window.
“We’re calling it, expect Rudiger to be pictured with the Blues shirt shortly.”
Chelsea finished seven points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League title race last season to secure a title in their first season under Conte.
The Blues lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final to miss out on the double, however.
