Diego Costa sends open message to Chelsea fans about transfer
The outgoing Chelsea striker has a message for Blues fans after agreeing to a return to Atletico Madrid on Thursday
Diego Costa has underlined his affection for the Chelsea fans after his return to Atletico Madrid was confirmed on Thursday.
The Premier League champions agreed a deal with los Rojiblancos to send Costa on loan to the La Liga outfit until the end of the season.
Atletico Madrid have committed to re-signing the controversial striker in a £57m deal at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
However, the Spain international won’t be able to feature for Diego Simeone’s side until the club’s transfer ban is lifted in January.
Costa hasn’t featured for Chelsea this season after Antonio Conte informed the 28-year-old that he is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge at the start of the summer.
The outgoing Chelsea number 22 scored 20 goals in each of his title-winning seasons at the west London club under Jose Mourinho and Conte in 2014-15 and 2016-17.
And Costa has a final message for the Chelsea fans ahead of his return to Atletico Madrid.
“Everybody knows how much I love the fans,” Costa told Sky Sports.
Costa was part of the Atletico team that won the La Liga title in 2013-14 under Diego Simeone.
However, the Spanish striker missed out on a Champions League winner’s medal following a 4-1 extra-time loss to Real Madrid.
Chelsea signed Alvaro Morata in a £58m deal from Real Madrid to replace Costa this summer.
