Chelsea could make free agent their first summer signing – report
Chelsea could be set to make a move to sign Man City goalkeeper Willy Caballero this summer, say reports
Chelsea are pondering a transfer swoop to sign former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun is reporting that the Blues are ready to make a bid to sign the goalkeeper after Asmir Begovic left Chelsea to join Bournemouth this summer.
The west London side are thought to be on the lookout for a back-up goalkeeper after Begovic’s transfer and Caballero is being lined up as a possible target, according to the report.
Caballero is a free agent after being deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester City by Pep Guardiola this summer.
The same story states that Antonio Conte was impressed by Caballero’s performances for Manchester City last season as they ended up third in the Premier League table.
The article says Chelsea are in “pole position” to land the 35-year-old Argentine shot-stopper as Conte looks to bring in a replacement for Begovic and an understudy for first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea are thought to be keen to strengthen their squad in a number of areas this summer as Conte prepares for his second season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
