Chelsea set to sign leading 25-year-old defender in £60m deal – report
Chelsea are on the brink of signing Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to reports
Chelsea are ready to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk in a £60m deal in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Sky Sport Italia is reporting that the Netherlands international is closing in on a switch to the Premier League champions this summer.
The same article states that there is still a small distance between Chelsea and Southampton in relation to their valuation of the defender.
However, according to the Italian media outlet, both parties are confident of concluding a deal which would see Van Dijk become Chelsea’s first summer signing.
The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool earlier this month but a deal failed to materialise after the Reds were forced to pull out of a deal.
Indeed, Liverpool issued a statement apologising to Southampton about their pursuit of the Dutch defender, much to the embarrassment of the club’s supporters.
Chelsea are thought to be in the market to sign a centre-half after their experienced captain John Terry left Stamford Bridge at the end of the 2016-17 season.
