Chelsea bid for 22-year-old rejected as Blues search for first signing – report
Chelsea have had a £22m bid for Tiemoue Bakayoko rejected by Monaco, say reports in France
Chelsea have had a £22m bid for Tiemoue Bakayoko rejected by Monaco, according to reports in France.
French newspaper L’Equipe, as reported by Metro, is claiming that the Blues have so far failed in their attempts to land Bakayoko because Monaco are holding out for a fee closer to £42m.
The same report claims that Chelsea have been in talks with Monaco about signing Bakayoko for the last month but that the Blues saw their initial bid immediately rejected by the Ligue 1 champions.
The story also suggests that Bakayoko would be keen on a transfer away from Monaco this summer.
Chelsea are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as Conte prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.
The Sport Review exclusively revealed on Friday that Chelsea are lining up a big-money bid for Roma defender Kostas Manolas as Conte looks to bolster his rearguard options at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea won the Premier League in Conte’s first campaign in England but came up short in the FA Cup final, when they were beaten by Arsenal at Wembley last month.
