Chelsea transfers: David Luiz is happy to join one of the biggest clubs in the world after sealing PSG move
David Luiz declared that he is ready for a “new step” in his career after completing a £50m move to Paris Saint-Germain from Chelsea.
The Brazil international, who helped the hosts seal a 3-1 win against Croatia in the opening World Cup game on Thursday, has signed a five-year deal with the Ligue 1 champions.
It will be a great time for me, both professionally and personally. I want to enjoy myself and, if possible, win as much as possible
PSG have coughed up a world-record fee for a defender after successfully luring Luiz from Chelsea, with the Blues already spending the funds raised on Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
“Right from the very first contact I had with Paris St Germain I was very happy,” Luiz said.
“It’s a big club with a great history, a new step in my life, and I’m impatient to play and show what I can do.
“I will be defending the colours of one of the biggest clubs in the world. It will be a great time for me, both professionally and personally. I want to enjoy myself and, if possible, win as much as possible.”
The 27-year-old made 81 Chelsea appearances and won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup during a three-year spell at Stamford Bridge after joining the Blues in 2010.
