Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has hinted that Edinson Cavani could be allowed to leave the Serie A outfit in the summer.
The Uruguay international has scored an impressive 18 goals in 21 Serie A appearances this season and has attracted reported interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.
The 25-year-old penned a new five-year deal with the Naples outfit last year, with the striker’s new contract including a £52m release clause.
But De Laurentiis suggested Cavani would be allowed to quit the Serie A title chasers if the striker asked to leave at the end of the season.
“I have an extraordinary relationship with Cavani,” De Laurentiis said.
“He has a five-year contract with us and we will evaluate what to do in the summer.
“If he were to convince me that his story with Napoli is over we’ll talk, otherwise he will remain here.”
De Laurentiis also moved to clarify manager Walter Mazzarri’s future at the club.
“Mazzarri? His contract expires at the end of this season. He still has my esteem and I see no reason to change,” De Laurentiis added.
“We’ll see if he still wants to stay, we will decide together.”
