Chelsea transfers: Fulham’s Martin Jol rubbishes Frank Lampard link
Chelsea transfers: Fulham manager Martin Jol rubbishes speculation linking the Cottagers with a move for Frank Lampard
Martin Jol has rubbished speculation linking Fulham with a move for Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, insisting the veteran will never play for the Cottagers.
The 34-year-old’s current Chelsea contract is set to expire at the end of the season and the Champions League winners are yet to offer the playmaker a new deal..
Lampard has defied his critics by scoring 12 goals in 23 appearances in the Premier League this term, alerting a number of clubs to the prospect of signing the England international on a free transfer.
Fulham have been linked with a shock move for Lampard, but Jol played down the Cottagers’ chances of signing the midfielder from their west London rivals.
“Frank is the most productive midfield player in England in the last 30 or 40 years,” the Dutchman said.
“Everyone would love to have him. He’s fit and is a good character.
“He will have a smile on his face if he listens to Fulham but I would love to have him.
“But it’s hypothetical as he will never play for Fulham. I’m not sure he will play for a top-10 team.
“He’s a legend – a living legend over there. He won all the prizes over there. In the end I have a feeling they will keep him.”
Chelsea travel to Craven Cottage on Wednesday night with Rafael Benítez’s men looking to secure a victory which would move them ahead of Arsenal into third position.
