Chelsea transfers: Jose Mourinho fuels Didier Drogba speculation

Chelsea transfers: Jose Mourinho fails to rule out a move for Blues legend Didier Drogba this summer

Jose Mourinho has fuelled speculation that Didier Drogba could be in line for a sensational return to Stamford Bridge.

The 36-year-old, who was part of Ivory Coast’s World Cup squad, is a free agent after quitting Turkish outfit Galatasaray at the end of last season.

If I bring him back, and the decision has to be made soon, it is because as a player he has qualities to make the team stronger

Drogba left west London a Chelsea legend in 2012 after scoring his 157th and final goal of his Blues career to help the Stamford Bridge outfit win the Champions League in 2012.

And Mourinho, who brought Drogba to Chelsea in a £24m deal from Marseille in 2004, failed to rule out a move for the Ivorian in the summer transfer window.

“We think about it,” Mourinho is quoted as saying by Daily Mail. “We want to win matches and win titles and Didier is one of the best strikers in Europe.

“He is still very adapted to the needs of the Premier League and we are thinking about it in a non-emotional way. If you bring him back it is not because he is Didier or scored the most important goal in the history of Chelsea, or because I read I need an assistant, no.

“If I bring him back, and the decision has to be made soon, it is because as a player he has qualities to make the team stronger. The team is not about the eleven. It is about the different options and as an option I would not say no about the possibility.”

Drogba won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and Champions League at Chelsea.
