Chelsea transfers: Juan Mata ‘relaxed about speculation’
Chelsea transfers: Juan Mata insists he is happy at the Blues despite reports of Arsenal and Manchester United interest
Juan Mata insists he was relaxed about speculation linking the Chelsea midfielder with Arsenal and Manchester United this summer.
The Blues playmaker was touted to be part of a deal which Chelsea had put together to sign want-away Red Devils striker Wayne Rooney.
However, Chelsea moved to quash talk of David Luiz or Mata moving to Old Trafford, while a bid from Arsenal has failed to materialise for the Spaniard.
And the 24-year-old insists Jose Mourinho reassured the playmaker that his future was at Stamford Bridge.
“I was relaxed about the speculation because I spoke to the club and the manager, who said I was important to them. That was good to hear,” Mata told Chelsea’s website.
The Spain international added that he is very happy at the west London side under new manager Mourinho, with the former Valencia midfielder hoping to improve this season.
“We’re really looking forward to starting the season with him and we are all excited about it. Jose did a really great job here a few years ago and I think that we can do it again,” he continued.
“It’s very good, everyone wants to feel important for the club, I feel it, I’m very happy and enjoying training with the new manager, and I hope I can improve on the last two seasons.”
Mata has scored 18 goals in 69 Premier League appearances following his £23.5m move to Chelsea from Valencia in 2011.
