Kevin De Bruyne has played down talk of a rift with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho amid reports of interest from Wolfsburg.

The Belgium international has struggled to nail down a place in the Blues first-team since returning to the west London side following a season-long loan at Werder Bremen.

Mourinho, who returned to the club in June, publicly criticised the 20-year-old playmaker’s performance in their Capital One Cup victory over Swindon at the end of September.

De Bruyne has remained out-of-favour since the cup tie, but is remaining calm about his future at the Europa League holders.

“Am I panicking? Of course not. Honestly, I’m not worried. You seem to be more worried than me,” said De Bruyne.

“Mourinho is the boss and he decides who plays. He tells me when I’ve done something wrong, but I’ve heard nothing as negative from him as what I’ve been reading in the media.”

On Sunday, De Bruyne’s agent Patrick de Koster hinted his client could seal a return to the Bundesliga in the January transfer window.

“If Kevin has to find a new club in January, we’ll talk to Klaus Allofs,” De Koster told WAZ.

“I don’t think that Kevin training with the Under-21s is a punishment. This happens in England, and Kevin is not the only player.”
