Chelsea transfers: Wilkins warns Blues not to let Lukaku go
Chelsea transfers: Ray Wilkins warns the Blues not to let Romelu Lukaku leave the club this summer
Ray Wilkins has warned Chelsea that Romelu Lukaku is too good to let go this summer.
The Belgian forward has enjoyed a successful loan spell at Everton this season, scoring 15 goals and making six assists in 31 Premier League games.
This young man is the closest thing you’ll see to Didier Drogba at such a young age
The 21-year-old has been linked with a permanent move to Goodison Park as well as potential switch to Atletico Madrid as part of a deal to bring Diego Costa to Stamford Bridge.
But former Chelsea midfielder Wilkins feels that Lukaku is too valuable an asset to let leave the west London club.
“He has to come back to Chelsea in my opinion,” Wilkins told talkSPORT. “This young man is the closest thing you’ll see to Didier Drogba at such a young age.
“Lukaku scored 16 goals at Everton in the Premier League so [his departure] is a massive problem for Roberto Martinez, as it was for West Brom,” Wilkins added.
“He scored 17 for West Brom. He leaves, goes to Everton, then scores lots for them and West Brom nearly get relegated. It’s tough for Roberto.”
