I could quit football if Man City ditch me, says Craig Bellamy

Craig Bellamy claims he would consider walking away from football if Manchester City ditch the striker this season.

The 31-year-old forward revealed he has already turned down an offer from German club Wolfsburg but is now concerned he may not make City’s final 25-man Premier League squad.

“If I don’t get in the squad I don’t know what I will do,” said Bellamy. “I might finish, full stop. Or look at every option.

“With this 25-man ruling, it doesn’t matter how well I train or how good my attitude is, I might not be registered to play.”

Bellamy, who was brought to Eastlands by Mark Hughes for £14m last January, added: “I sort of feel I am not going to be part of it. I find that very difficult to take because I really enjoy playing for Manchester City.”

“I think I have shown that with my commitment this year.”

“So do I go without playing football until January, or do I find myself a club where I can play football? I am committed to stay where I am.

“I feel I deserve to be part of it, but I don’t pick the 25 or the team. I have to wait on their decision.”

Bellamy’s claim comes after Spurs boss Harry Redknapp admitted to being a keen admirer of the Wales striker.

Redknapp is looking to bolster his attacking line-up prior to his side’s Champions League bow this season, but said he was unsure whether City would sell the striker.

“I like Bellamy but if Manchester City don’t want to sell him…he is a player I’ve been after before he went to Man City,” said Redknapp.

“They belong to Man City at the moment and until they decide they want to sell them then there’s nothing you can do with anybody.”
