Real Madrid are a team ‘under construction’, says Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is confident Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid will soon play the brand of football that fans at the Bernabeu demand.

Los Blancos secured their first three points of the new season with a 1-0 win over Osasuna on Saturday after Ronaldo set up Ricardo Carvalho for the defender’s first goal since arriving in Spain.

But despite their victory, Real’s lack of cohesion clearly frustrated the home supporters, who at times booed their team. Ronaldo, however, has backed the Portuguese coach to get the best out of the La Liga side.

“I’m sure Mourinho will end up giving us a spectacle. He is one of the best coaches in the world,” said Ronaldo, 25. “We are a team under construction, and we want to win a title this year.

“For us, we tried to play well, and to put on a show, but sometimes it is not possible. It is better if the public help you to play better.

“They could well use the energy spent whistling to actually encourage us.”

Barcelona suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Hercules at the Camp Nou on Saturday and the Portuguese winger insists the result demonstrates Pep Guardiola’s defending champions can be caught this season.

“There are no unbeatable teams, but I was happy and surprised at Barcelona’s defeat,” Ronaldo continued. “Real Madrid are a club that cannot afford to spend two seasons without winning anything, and neither can I.”
