Crystal Palace 2 Cardiff City 0: Pulis hails Chamakh after victory

Tony Pulis heaped praise on Marouane Chamakh after guiding Crystal Palace to victory over Cardiff City to boost their Premier League survival hopes.

Cameron Jerome headed the home side ahead at Selhurst Park after just six minutes, before Chamakh’s 57th-minute volley sealed back-to-back top-flight wins for the Eagles for the first time since 2004.

And Pulis, who took over from Ian Holloway last month, felt that his side more than merited the three points as they moved up to 18th, level on points with 17th-placed West Ham.

“We did very well,” said Pulis. “We started sloppily and they could have scored but it was a great save from Julian Speroni. From that point onwards though I thought we dominated and deserved it.

“I thought Marouane Chamakh was brilliant today and we stayed nice and tight, breaking well when we could.”

The 55-year-old continued: “Back to back wins doesn’t half give a club a lift. They’re a good group of lads and we have worked a lot on shape and things I think is essential to give you a chance and the players have responded well.

“You’ve always got a chance if you get yourself organised.

“But we can’t get carried away. We’ve a tough run of games now ahead of Christmas. Staying up is a massive ask and a massive task.”
