Michael Owen described Manchester United’s 4-1 win at CSKA Moscow as the “stuff of dreams” as Jose Mourinho’s maintained their perfect start to the season.

The Red Devils were 3-0 winners against Swiss side Basel in their opening European fixture at Old Trafford to lay down a marker in Group A earlier this month.

Romelu Lukaku netted against the Swiss champions to open his Champions League account for the campaign and the 24-year-old broke the deadlock in the fourth minute with a header.

France international Anthony Martial doubled the visitors’ lead from the penalty spot after Henrikh Mkhitaryan was brought down in Igor Akinfeev’s area.

Martial turned provider once again to tee up Lukaku for his third goal of the night with a simple tap-in to put Manchester United in control at half-time.

Jose Mourinho’s men completed the rout in the second half when Mkhitaryan was quickest to react to Akinfeev’s save from Martial to secure three points with a resounding win.

Former Manchester United striker Owen admitted that even Mourinho wouldn’t have imagined such a landslide win at CSKA Moscow given the Russian side have never lost by more than two goals in Russia in the competition before Wednesday night.

“It’s the stuff of Manchester United’s wildest dreams,” Owen told BT Sport.

Owen added: “It was a stroll for Manchester United tonight.”
