Daniel Sturridge ‘honoured’ to set Liverpool goal-scoring record
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge expresses his delight at becoming the fastest-ever Reds player to reach 30 goals
Daniel Sturridge says that he is “honoured” to become the fastest Liverpool player to score 30 league goals.
The 24-year-old achieved the feat as he netted his 20th top-flight strike of the campaign to help Liverpool seal a 2-1 victory over Sunderland at Anfield on Wednesday.
Sturridge has been a revelation since completing a £12m move to Merseyside from Chelsea in January 2012, scoring 34 goals in 43 games in all competitions for the Reds.

Sturridge and Suarez are the first Liverpool strikers to each score 20 or more goals in a league campaign since Reds legends Roger Hunt and Ian St John.
But the former Manchester City striker stressed the importance of the team ahead of individual accolades.
“It’s special but the success of the team is more important to me,” Sturridge told the Liverpool Echo.
“I don’t get too excited. It’s important to take each game as it comes. There are seven games to go and they will all be difficult. They will all be different in their own way.”
