Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge prefers to focus on seven difficult games instead of dreaming about winning the title

Daniel Sturridge is refusing to get excited by the prospect of Liverpool winning the Premier League.

The Reds moved to within a point of leaders Chelsea after a close-fought 2-1 victory over Sunderland at Anfied on Wednesday night.

Liverpool face fourth-place chasing Tottenham on Merseyside this Sunday, but Sturridge insisted the Reds can’t worry about their opponents.

“I don’t get too excited,” Sturridge told the Liverpool Echo.

“It’s important to take each game as it comes.

“There are seven games to go and they will all be difficult. They will all be different in their own way.

“We can’t worry about the opposition. We just need to worry about ourselves and try to play our football as best as we can.”

Sturridge admitted Liverpool had to dig deep to beat Sunderland after Ki Sung-Yeung’s 76th strike ensured a nervy finish.

“It wasn’t easy,” Sturridge added. “It never is when a team defends so deep and puts so many bodies behind the ball.

“But in the first half we were patient and we worked hard to break them down.

“Our back four defended really well. They were fantastic. You have to grind results out sometimes.

“You have to do the dirty things to get the result you want and we got there in the end.”
