Arsene Wenger’s side are now being touted as potential title contenders, particularly after the Arsenal manager lured Petr Cech to The Emirates in an £11m deal from Chelsea.
However, Tottenham Hotspur legend Anderton still believes Arsenal need to strengthen their back four if Wenger’s men are to launch a title challenge.
“I don’t really [think Arsenal will win the title],” Anderton told The Sport Review, speaking at a Play With A Legend event. .
“It pains me to say it but I do enjoy watching them play at times. They can play some great football and Arsene Wenger is a great manager. The stability of having him there must be helping them.
“I still think defensively they may not be strong enough to challenge Chelsea and Manchester City. But on their day, they are capable of beating anyone with the quality players that they’ve got in midfield and the forward areas.
“There is still a question-mark over them defensively, although you’d have to say Petr Cech is a very good signing.”
Arsenal start their Premier League campaign with a home game against West Ham United at The Emirates next Saturday.
