David Beckham has declared that England are the best candidates to host the 2018 World Cup ahead of Fifa’s final decision on Thursday.

Fifa delegates will vote in Zurich on Thursday to decide who will host the tournament, with England facing competition from the Belgium-Holland and Portugal-Spain joint bids as well as Russia.

Beckham is set to travel to Zurich to back his country’s bid and hopes his contribution will help boost England’s chances.

“Hopefully I will make a difference,” said Beckham. “There are many people, like Prince William, who have been involved and working hard for the bid and to get it to this final point.

“We are going to FIFA and a lot of delegates because we need to tell those people about why we feel it is the right thing for us to get the World Cup.”

The former England captain added: “I feel that at the end of the day it is down to what the bid team have done. England have a history and tradition (in football) and it is about the benefits that can be generated by having the World Cup in England.”

Meanwhile, Beckham remains unsure over a possible move back to the Premier League in January after Everton manager David Moyes offered Beckham the chance to move to Goodison Park on loan during the MLS off-season.

When asked about the possibility of a return to English football, Beckham said: “I’m just trying to keep myself fit and get my fitness back from the injury I received seven months ago.

“I’m just trying to make sure my body is in the right condition and then I’ll think about it. I haven’t decided anything yet.”
