David Bentley has revealed he still hopes to have a future at Tottenham Hotspur despite joining Russian side FC Rostov on loan until Christmas.

The 28-year-old has started a mere 32 Premier League games for the White Hart Lane outfit since moving from Blackburn Rovers in 2008.

In August 2011, Bentley joined West Ham United on loan but underwent a knee operation in October which ruled him out for six months.

And Harry Redknapp’s replacement, Andre Villas-Boas, who took charge of Spurs in July, did not view Bentley as part of his plans for the club, allowing the Arsenal youth graduate to join Rostov on loan.

“I’m excited by the challenge. I’m there until Christmas and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead,” Bentley told Sky Sports News.

“You always hope, but there’s been a lot of water under the bridge at Tottenham with me. The injury last year – I was out for a season – and there are a lot of good players there ahead of me.”

He added: “I’m fit and ready to go. I just want to get back playing football and get that buzz from playing again.

“I’m as fit as I can be as far as not playing, but that’s what I’m looking to do – get match fit while I’m over there and get in the full flow of playing again.

“You never know in football. We’re treating it as obviously contracted for a short term. But long term we’ll see what happens.

“I’m going there to hopefully enjoy my football. If things work out then we’ll see what happens from there.”
