Dietmar Hamann lavishes praise on ‘superb’ Daniel Sturridge
Dietmar Hamann believes Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge is a rare breed of striker after he scored his ninth goal of the season
Dietmar Hamann has heaped praise on Daniel Sturridge’s “superb” all-round game after the Liverpool striker helped England beat Montenegro 4-1 on Friday.
The 23-year-old Reds forward netted a 90th-minute spot-kick at Wembley as he continued his excellent goal-scoring form and bagged his ninth strike in nine games for both club and country this season.
And former Liverpool midfielder Hamann, who played with Sturridge during his spell at Manchester City, believes the Reds striker has the rare ability to beat opponents with mind-boggling speed and trickery.
“What I like about Daniel is that he can do everything,” Sturridge told Liverpool’s magazine.
“His all-round game is superb. Pace is one of the major and most noticeable assets. Before he joined in January I felt the team was lacking in that department.
“His speed allows Liverpool to stretch opponents. Defenders don’t want him running in behind them so they drop off deep. That creates more room for Sturridge and his team-mates.
“Then there is his ability to beat opponents with trickery. Not too many centre-forwards can go past men or evade challenges the way he does. Technically he is very good too.”
