Didier Drogba has joked that he would rather not score against Chelsea but Galatasaray qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Blues were pegged back in the first leg in Turkey after Gala midfielder Aurelien Chedjou cancelled out Fernando Torres’s firt-half opener.

I’m always confident before a game because there is always 90 minutes to play and a chance to win

Drogba’s last kick in a Chelsea shirt helped the west London side beat Bayern Munich on penalties in the Champions League final in 2012.

Asked whether he would celebrate if he scored at Stamford Bridge, Drogba replied: “I rather not score and then we qualify [laughs].”

The 36-year-old Ivorian admitted the first leg felt like a training session coming up against his former Chelsea team-mates as he drew a blank.

“I was very happy to see my ex-teammates and to play against them was like another day at training, with a lot of compact movement but a lot of respect and that’s the way I love football,” Drogba added in his interview with RWD Football.

The former Marseille forward added that he is confident Galatasaray can beat Chelsea on aggregate and book their place in the last-eight draw.

“I have to feel confident, I’m always confident before a game because there is always 90 minutes to play and a chance to win, to play well and score goals,” Drogba continued.

“Even if you don’t, at the end of the game there’s always a chance.”
