Eden Hazard: Juan Mata has been Chelsea’s best player this season
Eden Hazard believes Juan Mata has been Chelsea's top performer this season and is backing him for the player of the year award

Eden Hazard believes Juan Mata has been Chelsea’s standout performer this season and has backed the Spaniard for the PFA player of the year award.
Hazard, who has been nominated for both the senior and young player prizes following his first season in England, says that his Chelsea team-mate would be a worthy winner of this year’s accolade.
“Juan is also nominated and he played very well this season, scoring and making assists. For me he has been our best player,” Hazard told Chelsea’s website.
Although the Belgian playmaker has revealed his pride at being nominated for the prestigious awards, Hazard insists that winning silverware with Chelsea this season is more important than any individual prize.
“In France I was voted the best player by other players, which was a big honour,” he continued.
“It is good for me, but it is not so important. It is very nice to be nominated, but I am just happy to play well this season but maybe we can win in the Europa League, which would be more important.
“It is about the team, not individual personal performances. Players want to win trophies, and so the Europa League would be better, and hopefully we can be back in the Champions League next season.”
Chelsea take on Basel in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final in Switzerland on Thursday night.
