Alex Goode insists the best is yet to come from him in an England shirt despite establishing himself as first-choice full-back for Stuart Lancaster’s side.

The Saracens full-back impressed during this year’s Six Nations, featuring in all five of England’s game to cement his place in the side having only made his debut against South Africa in 2012.

Like many of his team-mates, the 24-year-old was exposed in the defeat in Wales on the final weekend of the championship but has shrugged off that disappointment to help Saracens to the top of the Premiership and into the last four of the Heineken Cup.

And after just under a year in the England set up, Goode believes he has settled in and is ready to make an even bigger impact in the next 12 months and beyond.

“I’m very happy that I have been involved for the whole year,” he said.

“In truth, I’ve absolutely loved every minute of it and grown a great deal as a player.

“There is still a lot more I can give, though, and I am going to have to develop as a player in order to keep my position because I know there are plenty of players – Mike Brown, Ben Foden, Elliot Daly – who are breathing down my neck and keeping me on my toes.

“The key for me is to keep playing consistently well at as high a level as possible.

“I am lucky that Saracens have some huge games coming up. I am at a top club and I can express myself every time I play. That gives me the best chance of putting in performances, which is where I want to be.”
