England v New Zealand: Martin Guptill aims to continue fine form

Martin Guptill says he hopes to continue his fine form after his unbeaten 189 helped New Zealand beat England in the second one-day international at the Ageas Bowl.

The 26-year-old, who scored a century in the opener at Lord’s, proved to be England’s nemesis again as the visitors posted a score of 359-3 at Hampshire’s home ground on Sunday.

Jonathan Trott led England’s reply with a knock of 109 but Alastair Cook’s men were tamely ousted for 273 in the 45th overn as the Kiwis secured a series win.

“I’ve not had the worst few days!” said Guptill.

“I’m pleased with the way I’m batting at the minute and long may it continue.

“I was gradually going through the innings and kept building partnerships with the other guys and that really helped me through and I was able to put on a big score.”

Guptill also heaped praise on his team-mates for the emphatic manner in which the Kiwis have sealed the series win ahead of the final ODI at Trent Bridge and ICC Champions Trophy later this month.

“The boys are delighted to come over and play against a team as good as England, and where they sit on the rankings, and play against them in their own conditions and have wrapped the series up in two games and in a fashion that has shown how good a team we can be,” he added.

“It’s very, very special for the guys.”
