Everton 0 Tottenham 0: Roberto Martinez felt a draw was a fair result at Goodison Park on Sunday
Roberto Martinez had no complaints about a point after Everton and Tottenham Hotspur shared a goalless draw at Goodison Park.
Spurs enjoyed the lion share of possession in the first half but the visitors failed to create any clear cut opportunities for their striker Roberto Soldado.
The biggest talking points where two penalty appeals after Jan Vertonghen and Seamus Coleman clashed on two separate occasions on Sunday afternoon but referee Kevin Friend failed to point to the spot.
“In the first half Spurs had the initiative in the game,” Martinez told BBC Sport.
“We were good defensively but we lost the ball too cheaply. In the second half we were completely different, imposed ourselves and forced Spurs to defend in their own half.
“It was a very level game but what I will take from it is our character. We found a way to impose ourselves in the second half and I really enjoyed watching a game that both teams tried to win until the last seconds.”
Martinez also gave his thoughts on why Everton failed to get the best out of their prolific striker Romelu Lukaku.
“We were making decisions with our heart and trying to get the ball forward too quickly. We know how powerful and effective Romelu can be but it became a pattern rather than an option.”
