Everton 1 Stoke 0: Leighton Baines warns rivals that the Toffees will "give everything" to secure European football next season
Leighton Baines warned Everton’s rivals that the Toffees will “give everything” to secure European football next season after a battling win over Stoke City.
Kevin Mirallas’s impressive solo effort in the 28th minute was all that separated the sides at Goodison Park as Everton kept pace with fifth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League table.
David Moyes’ men are sixth, two points behind the Gunners and now just four behind fourth-placed Chelsea
And Baines insists that Everton are determined to qualify for Europe next season, with a trip to White Hart Lane looming next weekend.
“We are fighters, and we will give everything we have got to reach Europe,” Baines said.
“It is a massive game coming up against Tottenham [next Sunday].”
Baines also praised Everton’s resilience and hailed Mirallas following the Belgian’s stunning winner.
“It was a battle and we knew we would have to do that,” he added. “It was a trough old game and the quality was probably not what we wanted.
“It was a great goal and solo run. Kevin Mirallas has pace and skill plus a great finish, and he showed all those things.”
