Roberto Mancini was “too angry” to face the media in the wake of Manchester City’s defeat by Everton, according to first team coach David Platt.
The home side took the lead at Goodison Park when Leon Osman hit a stunning long-range effort past Joe Hart in the 32nd minute.
David Moyes’ men were then reduced to 10 men early in the second half when Steven Pienaar was shown a second yellow card for a studs-up challenge on Javi Garcia.
But the Merseysiders withstood late pressure from City, who were denied a clear penalty when Marouane Fellaini handled in the box – and Nikica Jelavic scored a breakaway goal in stoppage time to all but end City’s Premier League title bid.
“He’s angry, as you can imagine,” Platt told Sky Sports. “He’s just taking stock of the situation and is calming down himself. He doesn’t want to come out and say things that might get him in trouble.
“We weren’t really at it, all through the game we were out-worked by Everton.”
Platt, whose side could fall 15 points behind Manchester United if the Red Devils beat Reading, added: “Nobody’s been shouting from the rooftops saying that we’re going to chase Manchester United down.
“They’ve got a significant points advantage over us. Even if we had won the game today it would probably have been 12 points this afternoon.
“We have an obligation to win football matches regardless of whether it’s mathematically possible or not.”
