Everton 2 Man City 0: Seamus Coleman declares that the Toffees "showed what we're all about" after battling win over champions
Seamus Coleman declared that Everton “showed what we’re all about” after the Toffees secured a battling victory over Manchester City despite being reduced to 10 men.
David Moyes’ men, who were humiliated 3-0 by Wigan as they were knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend, took the lead when Leon Osman hit a stunning long-range effort past Joe Hart in the 32nd minute.
The home side were reduced to 10 men when Steven Pienaar was shown a second yellow card for a studs-up challenge on Javi Garcia.
And the Merseysiders withstood late pressure from Roberto Mancini’s men, before Nikica Jelavic scored a breakaway goal in stoppage time to secure a win which lifts Everton up to fifth in the table.
“Today we showed what we’re all about,” Coleman told Sky Sports. “That wasn’t Everton last week [against Wigan]. We just didn’t turn up.
“It was utterly disappointing to go out of the FA Cup. The manager got us going this week and we went out there and tried to repay the fans as much as we could and I think we’ve done that.
“It’s never nice to lose, especially because we thought we could do well in the FA Cup this year.”
The Irishman added: “Going down to 10 men we just worked hard for each other – we’re all mates here and I think that showed.
“We still have a lot to play for in the league and we showed it again today.”
