Everton 2 QPR 0: David Moyes says the Toffees must beat Arsenal on Tuesday night before talking about a top-four finish
David Moyes says Everton must beat Arsenal on Tuesday night before the Toffees can talk about a top-four finish after a comfortable home win against Queens Park Rangers.
The Hoops started the brighter as Junior Hoilett and Loic Remy both came close to opening the scoring at Goodison Park before Darron Gibson made the breakthrough in the 40th minute.
The Republic of Ireland midfielder saw his shot deflect off Clint Hill and past QPR’s Brazilian goalkeeper Júlio Cesar to punish the Hoops for their earlier wastefulness.
Moyes’s men then secured the victory in the 56th minute when Victor Anichebe directed a Toffees corner past the QPR shot-stopper to help move the home side to within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea.
“It’s a really important three points, because I was worried about today’s game. QPR have a lot to play for and they are almost getting to a situation where they don’t have much to play for,” Moyes told BBC Sport.
“We played well at times, the pitch is very poor at the minute and that is not helping us but we got the goals that mattered.
“I think if we beat Arsenal in midweek we can talk about the Champions League but if lose we are talking about a Europa League place.”
