Everton 3 Chelsea 6: John Terry hails ‘excellent’ performance
Everton 3 Chelsea 6: John Terry hails the Blues' fighting spirit as they hit six past the Toffees to top the Premier League
John Terry saluted Chelsea’s resilience after the Blues sealed a thrilling victory at Everton to move top of the Premier League table.
Diego Costa and Branislav Ivanovic gave the west Londoners a 2-0 lead after just three minutes before Kevin Mirallas headed one back on the stroke of half-time.
Defensively we might get a bit of a telling off from the manager!
Seamus Coleman’s own goal made it 3-1 to Jose Mourinho’s men but Steven Naismith slotted home moments later to cut the deficit again.
Nemanja Matic then made it 4-2 but Samuel Eto’o’s header against his ex-club kept Everton in it, before Ramires and Costa sealed the three points for the visitors.
“The way we kept responding was excellent and something we did not have last year so that delights me more than anything,” Terry told Sky Sports.
“At times we have dropped points against the lesser sides and we have not done well here the last few years so to come here and get the win and the manner of the performance is great for the team.
“The belief has been there since day one. We have started very well and it is important because the boys go away in the international break and it was important we got the win today and we got it brilliantly.
“Defensively we might get a bit of a telling off from the manager!”
The victory left Chelsea top of the Premier League on goal difference from Swansea City after an impressive start to the season for Mourinho’s men.
