Everton

Tim Howard The Everton goalkeeper was rarely tested from open play but the American really should have arranged his gaping wall better for Suarez’s free-kick. 6/10

Seamus Coleman The Republic of Ireland full-back produced an energetic performance as he regularly got up and down the right and barely put a foot wrong. 7

Phil Jagielka The Everton centre-half faced a stern test in the shape of Suarez but prevented the Uruguayan from finding the net in open play. 7

Sylvain Distin The French centre-half produced a typically solid performance. 7

Leighton Baines The left-back looked a threat on the left wing as he faced Henderson. Produced a few decent crosses but limped off injured. 6

Gareth Barry The Merseyside derby passed the England international by and he was particularly poor for Sturridge’s equaliser. 4

James McCarthy Facing Liverpool for the first time since joining Everton, the Irish midfielder didn’t impose himself at all in the middle of the park. 5

Ross Barkley England’s new star had a decent game and the 18-year-old provided the assist for Mirallas’ leveller in the first half. Apart from that contribution, he couldn’t produce any decisive moments. 6

Steven Pienaar The South African endured a muted display as he came up against England right-back Johnson. 5

Kevin Mirallas Well-taken goal for the first equaliser of the afternoon but really should have seen red for an awful high challenge on Suarez in the first half. 7

Romelu Lukaku (Man of the match) Had a quiet first half but came to life in the second with a placed finish and powerful header to take his season tally to seven. 9

Substitutes

Gerard Deulofeu The highly-rated Spaniard showed excellent pace to burst clear through on goal only to tamely shoot straight at Mignolet. Missed again late on. 6

Liverpool

Simon Mignolet The Liverpool goalkeeper kept his side in the derby as the Belgian made a total of nine saves at Goodison Park. 7

Glen Johnson The England international performed well and barely put a foot wrong all game. 7

Martin Skrtel The Reds centre-half produced a poor performance as he was bullied by Lukaku. 5

Daniel Agger The Liverpool vice-captain was equally poor in an unorganised defence. 5

Jon Flanagan Thrown in at the deep end and received a stern test as he came up against Coleman and Mirallas. He was understandably unable to out-jump Lukaku for the striker’s second goal. 5

Lucas Leiva Average game from the midfielder who picked up his sixth booking of the season. 5

Joe Allen Decent performance after a long injury lay-off but woefully passed up a chance to put the game out of sight with only Howard to beat. 6

Steven Gerrard Could have earned a red card for a poor aerial challenge on Barry. He had an unspectacular game, although did provide the assist for Sturridge’s equaliser. 6

Jordan Henderson The England man produced a pedestrian performance in the heart of Liverpool’s midfield. 6

Philippe Coutinho The diminutive Brazilian proved to be one of the few creative sparks on the field with his excellent footwork and was rewarded with his first derby goal. 7

Luis Suarez Back from the other side of the world, the skilful Uruguayan still managed to exhibit class throughout and scored with a great low free-kick as he notched his ninth league goal. 8

Substitutes

Victor Moses Missed a great headed chance in the dying moments of the game which could have sealed a sensational 4-3 win. 5

Daniel Sturridge Lovely looping header very late on to spare Liverpool’s blushes and join Suarez on nine. 7
