Roberto Martinez has refused to rule out Everton signing more players this summer amid reports the Toffees want Samuel Eto’o.

The Everton manager signed Gareth Barry, Muhamed Besic and Brendan Galloway before the Merseyside outfit splashed a club-record £28m on Romelu Lukaku.

We’re going to use the period from now until the end of the window to see how strong the squad is and if there is anything that we need to help the squad

Martinez unveiled loan signing Christian Atsu on Thursday morning ahead of Everton’s opening Premier League clash at Leicester City on Saturday.

And the 41-year-old wants to assess his side’s performance against the Foxes before deciding whether to dip back into the summer transfer market.

“We are in a position that I am desperate to see how the team reacts to the first game of the season,” Martinez said.

“In football, you always have to use the window to your advantage. If there is anything that can help the team until the next window opens, we’re always looking to do that.

“In terms of being desperate to bring someone in, the answer is no. But we’re going to use the period from now until the end of the window to see how strong the squad is and if there is anything that we need to help the squad, we’ll try and do that.”

Martinez ruled out Ivory Coast international Arouna Kone leaving Everton this summer as the former Wigan Athletic striker continues his rehabilitation from injury.

“I don’t know where that rumours is coming from, it absolutely isn’t true,” Martinez added.

“Arouna has been working well in pre-season. We’re desperate to see him enjoying being an Everton player and showing everyone the player that he is.”
