Mark Lawrenson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to ease to a 2-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Lilywhites will make the trip to Merseyside on consecutive weekends after Tottenham suffered a 2-1 loss to Premier League leaders Liverpool FC at Anfield last Sunday.

Spurs didn’t feature in the Carabao Cup in midweek to give Mauricio Pochettino’s squad extra time to prepare for their clash against struggling Everton.

Tottenham are in 11th spot in the table and two points ahead of the Toffees after last season’s Champions League runners-up made a poor start to their Premier League campaign.

Spurs have only managed to collect two points from their five away games in the English top flight so far this season.

Everton were 2-0 winners against Watford in the Carabao Cup in midweek to build some confidence ahead of the visit of Spurs.

Marco Silva’s side have lost five of their last six Premier League games, with a 2-0 victory over West Ham their only triumph.

Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Tottenham to beat Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

“Tottenham did not do very much wrong when I saw them lose 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield last Sunday,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“If Son Heung-min had scored instead of hitting the bar as Spurs led 1-0 at the start of the second half, the outcome could have been different – but you have to remember the number of saves Paulo Gazzaniga had made to deny the Reds by that point.

“Keeping Everton out is not such a difficult task and although Spurs have not been at their best recently, I still think they should have too much for the Toffees.”

Lawrenson added: “Where does that leave under-pressure Everton boss Marco Silva? I don’t know.

“His immediate future depends on the outlook of the club’s owners, but if Everton don’t win this game, I would say that Silva definitely cannot afford to lose his next one, which is away at Southampton.”

Spurs will take on Red Star Belgrade in their next Champions League fixture on Wednesday night.

Tottenham lost 2-0 to Liverpool FC in the Champions League final last term.
