Fabio Capello has conceded that his England players are suffering from low confidence after the World Cup and admitted he does not yet know how to remedy the issue.

The England boss on Monday took charge of the national team’s first training session since the tournament in South Africa ahead of Wednesday’s Wembley friendly against Hungary.

And the 64-year-old was quick to stress the importance of rebuilding a strong mentality within his side as speedily as possible.

“One thing which is really important is the mind of the players,” Capello told a news conference on Monday. “The mind of the players is the engine for everything.

“In the game against Germany it would have been really important for us if the referee had given the goal we had scored, because it is possible it could have changed the World Cup.

“I don’t know what we have to do to improve the mind of the players. At this moment, I don’t know.”

Capello added that he ‘learned a lot’ from England’s dismal World Cup performances and says the team as a whole must improve before the Euro 2012 qualifiers get underway in September.

“Every experience is important, for the manager and for everyone,” he added. “I learned a lot. When you lose something, new experiences are very important, you have to understand what happened.

“We made mistakes and from these we must improve. Everyone made mistakes.”

“I am here because I think I can do something for the national team, my experience is good and we can improve more. I will try to do better for the Euros.”
