Capello refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with the Inter Milan job

Fabio Capello has refused to rule out taking charge of Italian treble-winners Inter Milan after the World Cup.

The England coach, who has been named as a “candidate” by Inter chairman Massimo Moratti, did not give a clear answer as to where his future will lie after the World Cup.

The Italian, 63, has a break clause in his contract which would allow him to walk away from England after the World Cup -a clause Capello was working to remove before Lord Triesman scandal broke down negotiations.

Rather than ruling himself out of the running for the Inter post Capello suggested a need for assurances from top-ranking Football Association officials before he decided on his future after this summer’s tournament.

“I signed with one chairman [Brian Barwick], we changed it with another chairman [Lord Triesman] but now I don’t know what will happen,” said Capello.

“At the moment nobody has talked to me,” he added. “I’m really focused here to work on the World Cup. I am happy here.

“I think at this moment it is not a priority for me the priority is to be focused on the World Cup. I would like to stay here, I like this job. It is clear my situation. I have to speak with the new chairman.”

The England boss is however keen to ensure that speculation about his future does not impact upon his side’s World Cup preparations, with Capello now focusing on today’s game against Japan in Graz.

The former Real Madrid manager is likely to give Tom Huddlestone a chance in midfield alongside Frank Lampard, with Darren Bent partnering Wayne Rooney up front, giving the Spurs and Sunderland stars the chance to impress before the final World Cup squad selection is announced on Tuesday.
