Glenn Hoddle singled out N’Golo Kante for special praise for a strong performance despite Chelsea FC’s disappointing 3-0 loss to FC Barcelona on Wednesday night.

The Blues headed into the game on the back of the 1-1 draw in the first leg at Stamford Bridge last month.

Lionel Messi put FC Barcelona 1-0 up on the night within three minutes when he poked his finish through Thibaut Courtois’ legs.

Ousmane Dembele then made it 2-0 to the home side before the break to put the hosts firmly in control of the last 16 tie.

Messi made it 3-0 to the hosts on the hour-mark when he drilled home another finish through Courtois’ legs.

The result saw FC Barcelona progress through to the quarter-finals thanks to a 4-1 aggregate victory over the west London side.

Despite it being a disappointing night for Chelsea FC, former England boss Hoddle was impressed by Kante’s commanding display in midfield for the west London side.

Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Hoddle said: “He was enormous in the second half, Kante.

“He won so many balls back for Chelsea and recirculated the ball. He was excellent.”

Chelsea FC must now dust themselves down as they prepare for their FA Cup quarter-final clash against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

The Blues are now playing for the FA Cup and a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
