Frank Lampard explains how Alvaro Morata can win over Chelsea FC fans at FC Barcelona
The Chelsea FC legend is hoping Alvaro Morata can emulate Fernando Torres when the Blues face FC Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night

Frank Lampard believes Alvaro Morata will win over the Chelsea FC fans if the summer signing can emulate Fernando Torres with a winning goal at FC Barcelona on Wednesday night.
Morata will be hoping to feature in Antonio Conte’s team for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at Camp Nou on Wednesday night.
Chelsea FC squandered a 1-0 lead in the first leg after Barcelona legend Lionel Messi cancelled out Willian’s opener to secure a 1-1 stalemate at Stamford Bridge last month.
Morata has struggled to hold down a spot in Antonio Conte’s starting XI in recent month following his loss of confidence and form at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard was part of the Chelsea FC team when Carlo Ancelotti signed Torres in a then British record £50m deal from Liverpool FC in the 2011 January transfer window.
The Spanish forward struggled to transfer his incredible Anfield form to Chelsea FC to prompt criticism of the former Atletico Madrid star.
However, Torres scored the winning goal in a 2-0 win over Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final at Camp Nou in 2012.
His strike secured Chelsea FC’s place in the final and led to the west London side’s penalty shootout victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League showpiece.
Former Chelsea FC legend Lampard has challenged Morata to emulate Torres.
“Alvaro Morata has a great chance in Barcelona on Wednesday night to put his recent struggles behind him and be lauded by Chelsea fans forever,” Lampard told the Evening Standard.
“Morata has been going through a difficult time, but he just needs to look at Fernando Torres for inspiration to do something special at Camp Nou.
“Six years ago, Torres raced clear against Barcelona to score with a few minutes to go and guarantee Chelsea’s place in the Champions League Final.
“Torres went through tough periods of his own after joining from Liverpool for £50m in 2011 but every Chelsea fan around the world remembers that goal. They will always regard him dearly for that. These are the kind of games that define you – if you can perform, you will never be forgotten.”
