Fernando Torres sidelined for three weeks with adductor tear

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has been sidelined for up to three weeks with an adductor injury.

The 26-year-old pulled up with the injury during Spain’s World Cup Final clash with the Netherlands on Sunday, where he was an extra-time substitute.

Liverpool’s medical team were initially concerned that the striker had damaged either his hamstring or groin but a scan in Spain confirmed the injury was only a minor one.

“The initial assessment was he had a mild adductor tear and the Spanish medical staff didn’t consider it to be too serious at the time,” Peter Brukner, the Reds’ new Head of Sport Science and Medicine, told LFC.tv.

“He had an MRI scan yesterday which confirmed a small tear. He should be able to resume training within two to three weeks and be able to play again within three to four weeks.”

Meanwhile Liverpool defender Emiliano Insúa is expected to agree a deal with Italian club Fiorentina this week

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson admitted being impressed by the Argentine youngster but said the future of the player was out of his hands due to talks beginning before his arrival from Fulham.

“I saw him play in the last three days and I like him both as a player and on a personal level,” said Hodgson.

“However, talks with Fiorentina started before I got here, so I don’t know how advanced they are.

“I cannot say if Insua will stay at Liverpool or not. I’ll have to discuss that with the club.”

Insúa had a number of first team opportunities at Liverpool last season due to the prolonged injury of Fábio Aurelio, but the full-back failed to impress the Anfield faithful in his 31 League appearances.
