France winger Florent Malouda has admitted that he and his teammates made the wrong decision when opting to go on strike at the World Cup.

Nicolas Anelka was sent home following a heated half-time argument with coach Raymond Domenech during France’s 2-0 defeat to Mexico and following the match the French squad took Anelka’s side and boycotted training the next day.

On reflection however, Malouda, 30, says it was the wrong decision.

“We were in a state of mind where we were reacting to something,” Malouda told Sky Sports News.

“That was the wrong decision. Now it’s over and we’re thinking about the future.

France suffered a 2-1 defeat in their final group match against hosts South Africa and the Chelsea winger blamed low morale within the  squad  for the disappointing result.

“It was like we didn’t know how to get a result,” he continued. “The most important thing was that we didn’t know how to work on the confidence.

“There was a loss of confidence on the pitch. We were trying to find a solution but didn’t know where to start.”

“To get the results you have to restart the confidence, the manager and the work you’re putting in training.”

The midfielder is now looking forward to a new era under new manager Laurent Blanc.

“I hope he can turn things in a positive way,” he added.

“There is a lot of expectation and people are aware that is it going to be difficult.

“We need that, the nation needs that. I hope he is going to be the man for the situation and he has everyone’s help.”
