Fowler & more: Twitter reacts as Lambert completes Liverpool move
Robbie Fowler and Matt Le Tissier take to Twitter as Rickie Lambert swaps Southampton for Liverpool on Monday
Rickie Lambert completed his reported £4m switch to boyhood club Liverpool from Southampton on Monday.
The 32-year-old striker has signed a deal with the Reds after passing his medical this weekend before flying out with England’s World Cup squad to Miami on Sunday.
Lambert scored 117 goals in 235 appearances for the Saints – and Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier was among the first to pay tribute to the popular striker on Twitter.
Le Tissier (@mattletiss7): “Good luck and thanks for a great 5 years Rickie Lambert.”
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler (@Robbie9Fowler) gives the Reds’s latest signing a warm welcome: “Welcome home Rickie….”
Cardiff City striker Craig Noone (@craignoone) will take heart from Lambert’s fairy tale move: “What a move for Rickie Lambert. Delighted for him. World Cup, sign for Liverpool and champions league football next season.”
Hull City centre-half Curtis Davies (@TheCurtisDavies) loves the romance of Lambert’s story: “Fair play to Rickie Lambert, took the scenic route playing in every league but now playing for England and signing for his boyhood club.”
Finally, Football Focus host Dan Walker Dan Walker (@mrdanwalker) puts Lambert’s summer in context: “Rickie Lambert has has to wait a while but the Liverpool and England double makes 2014 a summer to savour #Lambert”
